TEW Inspirational Conversations
Once I announced my ‘quit day’ to the world, I had so many inspirational conversations over the next six weeks. My ex-colleague from the same company told me, “as long as you can get over that initial fear you will soar”. She was right! I left that fear in the garbage and said never again. I will not have any fear stopping my mission of being an E-N-T-R-E-P-R-E-N-E-U-R. It was time for business!
I had weekly calls with mentor and friend Q. Scott Riley, and had really inspirational call with radio personality Kendall Moore just days before. Kendall said, “Jules, let me tell you a story.” It went something like this, “at some point in your life you and the world will be standing at the edge of a pier, overlooking a lake. One somebody will dive in and swim and the other one will remain on the edge of that pier dangling for their life but will not jump.” Say no more, Kendall, I’m jumping in head first!
At that moment, I agreed that I refuse to be that person afraid to jump for one more minute. It is truly the most uncomfortable feeling when you darn right know you should jump but something is plain holding you back, FEAR (it’s a killer). I was so glad I had that conversation that day.

Entrepreneurship Day 1 – 11.11.11
On day one of my journey, I think I was frozen for the first few hours. I sat embracing my design computer and giving praise for the mere fact that I was FREEEE!

Social media butterfly Danielle Willis brings a unique mix of integrated media experience to help churches, ministries, non-for-profit organizations, and small businesses to find their social media DNA. She does this by equipping these organizations with the social media and traditional promotional tools needed to effectively brand themselves and connect with their prospects, customers and other supporters.
From social media press releases to content management via WordPress, Willis has coached several of her top clients on ways to interactively tell their stories; design a powerful presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and blogs; build their e-mail lists; and how to use brand themselves in the virtual world.
Her biggest accomplishment to date was serving as social media manager for Pastor Corey Brooks, better known as “The Rooftop Pastor.” What started as a simple project to relay details of Pastor Brooks’ goal to raise funds for a new community center in the heart of ____ using traditional public relations meets social media turned into a unique experience of sculpting the message of Project Hood, Pastor Corey Brooks and New Beginnings Church. From this experience, Danielle’s company, Metamorphosis Solution, came to be.
As a result of this project, Willis gained a greater understanding of the unique dilemmas faced by churches, ministries, and non-for-profit organizations, and she teaches them how to use social media to craft their stories and gain financial support through conversations. Pastor Brooks used Twitter to deliver pointed messages in 140 characters or less – globally.
To date, Willis’ social media DNA looks like: 311 followers on Twitter; connections on Facebook; 128 connections on LinkedIn.
She’s truly a butterfly!
Just finalizing some deets for The Entrepreneur Within ~ Book Release Coming 10.28.2012 ~ just so happened to come across my application to, The School of The Art Institute Chicago, from 1994. At the time, my awesome art teacher Craig A. Anderson told me STERNLY, “go to business school” ~ instead I demanded to go to “art school” and spent $25,000++ of my parent’s money in one year only to QUIT.
Shaking my head now, as I am nearly done with my “business degree” at age 35, I reflected back to the letter of recommendation that Mr. A wrote for me to get into the art school.
He said, “Julie is committed to her art and her inspiration has helped many of her classmates. Her positive attitude and her self discipline will be a welcome contribution in any class she may participate in at the Art Institute. This opportunity will enable her to expand and expand her talent.”
As I reflect on this piece of paper today, I realize that my MISSION was always to do art, inspire others and be a business woman. The ONLY thing that is a little cloudy is that the second I quit “art school,” I got a job at the corporation where my dad worked (because he made me) so I could afford my rent. Through 15 years of corporate life, I bounced from jobs every two to three years. I had a few incredible companies that I worked for such as Nike, Accenture and Home Depot, but I also had a few that de-inspired me. The end result is that every single opportunity that we encounter is an opportunity to GROW. Do not stay PAST your expiration date as Rhonda Alexander would say in TEW. Do not fail to live your PURPOSE as Bernada Nicole Baker would say. Do not overlook the excellent business relationships in your life as Glenn Murray would say and certainly, do not forget to ask for help as Merry Linden would say. Do not be a serial entrepreneur as Patrice Perkins quotes in the book. Do not let getting fired over a text message deter your dreams (@Shaniqua Anderson) and certainly “marry your destiny” (Corliss Johnson). Do not let anyone have power over you, as Nicole Knox would claim, and be a “power keeper.” I could go on and on and I will go on and on very soon.
We have over 12 writers / guest authors moving on the journey of publishing the TEW book and I am beyond excited. I am surrounded by loving and hard-working business owners and entrepreneurs, mentors and faith-movers and shakers. I am gracious for all of them right now as we move to “marry our destiny,” one step at a time.
We stand to WIN.
The Entrepreneur Within book will launch at 11am on 28 October 2012 at a destination in Chicago!
